Living through a high-end home Remodeling project

When anyone decides to buy a home, the location is one of the most critical things to consider. When it comes to remodeling, things can get hectic. I know because I have lived through it. I survived the remodeling as I realized there were many things that I needed to tolerate throughout the renovations that took quite a while to complete. There was the noise, the dust, and the workers getting in and out of my home. Many of my working and living spaces became inaccessible, and I had to change so many things about my lifestyle and adjust until things were done.

The final results were so good, and at some point, I forgot all the things I had to put up with to get the kind of home I have always wanted. Some things can help during a home remodeling. I learned that flexibility, creativity, and planning are some of the most important things that one needs to think of to ensure things go right. This is the only way to create that memorable home you may have always coveted.

  1. Planning

Planning is one of the essentials of getting to a desirable end. You have to find a contractor that shares your interests and one that does not mind partnering with you. You can easily tell how long the renovation will take and then designate some milestones for each step with them. Having a flexible timeline allows coordination and makes things smooth for all involved.

Having transparency in a project is one of the ways that ensure you are in full communication, and you can easily determine the things that need to be done throughout. You know where the project will begin and what to expect when you communicate. You need to have a kitchen, bathroom, and outdoor strategies even before the project start. You can easily isolate the dusty and noisy areas and ensure you still get your essentials without too much hassle.

You need to work with a contractor who shares your passion and can handle your vision.

  • Choosing work and play areas

The best contractors will always take time to seal off areas they are working on as best as possible. There are temporary barriers that have to be put up, and you need substitute facilities and routes to ensure you don’t keep disrupting the workers. Protective equipment is a must for the workers as well. My contactors had air filters And HEPA vacuums to ensure everyone was safe.

  • Food supplies

When rooms are being remodeled, you must appreciate that you cannot get storage capacity and cannot use them. It is very important to ensure that all essential items are put separately and can be accessed during different project phases. You also need to remove things that may be damaged during the remodeling. Mine, in particular, involved installing high-end gadgets because I was replacing most of the ones I had. However, you still need to have functional gadgets like coffee makers and so on. These are things that the contractors will need, so they have to be conveniently placed.

  • Bathroom and kitchen strategies

When the bathroom is being remodeled, there are complexities that you will need to deal with. You have to plan. There was a lot of work to be done on mine, so I chose something that worked quite well. We agreed on renovating one bathroom at a time always to have functional ones available and avoid jams. We had to ensure there was enough room and that the shower and bath products were easily accessible.

We also needed a solution for the kitchen. I love homemade meals, and if you are like me, you probably will do anything to avoid eating out or eating improvised meals. I have a lot of space around my home, and the first thing I did was have an outdoor kitchen fully equipped. This is something that I still use even to date, especially when I am hosting. It is one of the most iconic parts of my new home. Having a habitable area outdoors was a very important part of getting through the remodel. This was a haven where I could stay away from the noise and the workers and spend time with my family. I also included a safe area for the kids to play in and a lounging area. We are big on BBQs, and there was no dull moment, especially during the warmer days.

  • Dealing with the cold season

Outdoor spaces don’t make much sense in the cold season, and you have to think of alternatives. Since things are already planned out, the contractor will have prepared for the things to come and advise you accordingly. They can help you make the areas you are living in at the moment warmer by not interfering with the heating. This will help you avoid dealing with the chilly times. Having a stove at hand can go a long way. You may have to leave the dressing gowns and soft pajamas during such cold times. The most functional things at such times include wellies, waterproofs, trousers, and thick jumpers. It helps to have warm and waterproof garments to use during the colder periods.

Bottom line

The most important thing is to partner with a contractor you can trust and work through each step. I noticed that being on-site helps because I could easily ask and voice any concerns regarding certain things. You should also note that to have a perfect outcome, you will have to be not just patient but also ready to deal with delays. It is the only way to get what you want. A luxury home cannot be done to perfection overnight, it takes a lot of time and dedication, but it is truly worth the effort at the end of the day.  Safety is very important. That is why picking a contractor is important. They should be clear about the protocols, and they should always work hard to clean and secure all the work areas. You, the homeowner, also have a role to play.
